Nick McWilliams reporting – The Dover/New Philadelphia Salvation Army officially starts their Summer Feeding Program on Monday.

The program is offered in two locations this year, Monday through Friday.

Lieutenant Andrew Allen says that meals will be provided to all children, free of charge, with no income requirements, provided through the Ohio Department of Education.

“Kids 18 and under can just show up [for lunch.] A lot of kids depend on the meals that they receive at school throughout the school year. During the summer time, obviously, school is out, so many kids, unfortunately, don’t have access to nutritious meals. Some, to meals at all.”

Allen adds that there are nutrition requirements by the education department the non-profit must abide by, and all meals represent a balanced and healthy diet.

The Salvation Army does not require a sign-up or registration, and promotes free lunches for children in a non-discriminant fashion.

The locations will be the Salvation Army post on Emmet Avenue with breakfast from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and lunch from noon to 1 p.m., along with the Tuscarawas County Public Library with an hour lunch starting at noon.
