Nick McWilliams reporting – The plans for a project to bring sculptures throughout Tuscarawas County are moving, with fundraising ongoing.
Through the Tuscarawas Arts Partnership, the LoveTusc Sculpture Tour will bring unique works of art to each community, with a fundraising goal of $169,000.
Executive Director Wilma Mullet says that they’ve seen plenty of support thus far, and hope to keep the community-driven fundraising going.
“We’re trying to gain community support, whether it’s local businesses making a donation or individuals themselves. Each sculpture piece, the number we broke it down to with supplies and the fabrication of the sculptures which is going to be done by Jim Dawson with Synergy Signs, and paying local artists and all the things that make up that sculpture, it’s going to cost $6,950.”
TAP is still awaiting results from grant applications for art-driven projects, which could cover a large portion of the final cost.
Mullet says that the goal is to promote unity, along with individuality, in the county.
“We want this to be a public art series. Where people, in a sense, feel connected. We’re all under one county, and Tuscarawas County is our home. But at the same time, we wanted to recognize that each community and each place has their own cultural identity. That they have their own makeup of what makes them truly unique.”
Additionally, the group is putting together a documentary about the process of making the project come to life, and are planning a scavenger hunt involving all the sculptures next fall.
