Mary Alice Reporting – New, unwrapped toys are being collected through the Tuscarawas County Toys for Tots program.

The goal is to provide a gift to children to make a difference during the holiday season and the toys are being currently being collected.

Coordinator Bob Stratton says that the need is expected to be even greater this year and the program is seeking either toys or monetary donations.

“Toys for Tots is a national program connected with Marine Corp and we try and give every kid a toy. Tuscarawas County, last year, we did over 2,000 kids and this year we want to try and do the same. This year, we want to try and do the same. A lot of families are having a tough time.”

Donated items can be for babies to teens and boxes for those toys can be found primarily in New Philadelphia and Dover at businesses such as Dollar General and Rural King.

The New Philadelphia Fire Department is also holding a drive-thru event on December 5th from 1 until 3 pm.

Check donations can also be made out to Toys for Tots and sent to P.O. Box 113 Sherrodsville, OH 44675.
