Mary Alice Reporting – A partnership with the Tuscarawas United Way and HARACATUS Headstart will help local preschoolers be prepared for the first day of school.
This year’s Stuff the Bus event will be on August 6th and August 7th and invites folks to donate school supplies.
Susan Reidenbach, United Way’s Community Resources Coordinator, explains that, while any school items are accepted, they are asking for some unconventional supplies that fit with preschool-age needs, with a high need for plastic pencil boxes.
“Smaller scissors, larger pencils, matchbox cars, or stickers, or bubbles. They utilize these in many different ways within the classroom. Even things like unscented baby wipes or pull-ups in the 3T and 4T size. [Items can also include construction paper, washable markers, and large clue sticks].”
While the focus is on the younger-aged students, she notes that any supplies intended for older grades will be sorted and distributed appropriately.
Reidenbach adds that monetary donations will also be collected while the bus is positioned at Walmart, in New Philadelphia, from 10 am to 6 pm on both dates.
Meanwhile, a new initiative is bringing onboard local businesses where residents may see a collection box at locations such as the First National Bank of Dennison and First Federal.
