Mary Alice Reporting – The Tuscarawas County Safe Communities Coalition released the final report for fatal crashes in 2022.

From January 1st through December 31st, 2,410 crashes were investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s New Philadelphia Post.

Safe Communities Coordinator Abbie Benton says that 10 accidents resulted in 11 fatalities.

“Some of the highest crash routes were State Route 39, Interstate 77, US Route 250, State Route 416, and State Route 800. Eighty-nine percent of them were not buckled at the time of the crash and about fifty-five percent involved some type of impairment.”

She adds that the coalition remains active in helping to prevent vehicle accidents and injuries by consistently being out in the community providing education.

“To stress the importance of seatbelt usage, the dangers of driving impaired, and again we want to remind people to not text and drive, and to always look out for motorcycles.”
