Nick McWilliams reporting – Tuscarawas County has been selected as a representative in the newly developed BroadbandOhio Community Accelerator Cohort.

The group represents 11 counties total, and includes teams from Tuscarawas, Defiance, and Shelby Counties, along with a group from the Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission.

The program joins BroadbandOhio with Heartland Forward, the Benton Institute, and The Ohio State University Office of Extension.

The goal is to better educate underserved areas when it comes to broadband access, while giving updates on stage and federal dollars made available for internet connectivity improvements.

In a release, Executive Director of the Tuscarawas County Economic Development Corporation Marla Ekridge says that internet is a vital asset for residents, business owners, government leaders, and all parts of each community involved.

It’s the latest move by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted to bolster internet access in mostly rural parts of the state.
