Nick McWilliams reporting – During EMS Week, Uhrichsville Fire and EMS received a prestigious recognition from the state level, garnering praise from city officials.

The department received an Ohio EMS Stars award, which spotlights emergency medical providers who are in good standing and go above and beyond to ensure the safety and well being of the people they serve.

Fire Chief Justin Edwards offered praise for Captain Nathan Crouse and Firefighter/EMT’s Cory Paisley and Curtis McGarry, who accepted the award for being involved in a life-saving decision. He invited residents to check out the livestream of the ceremony that recognized selfless acts from around the state by emergency personnel.

It was a wonderful ceremony. It was pretty humbling to be in the presence of some of those calls. If anyone is interested in watching it, they did tape it. It was live and it’s on the ems.ohio.gov website. Take a look at it.”

Uhrichsville was recognized along with MedFlight 4 and Smith Ambulance, who were also on scene on October 10th, 2019, for an emergency call.

The call was for a 51-year-old woman, Cara Kohler, who was kicked in the face twice by a horse, and was saved by quick thinking and advanced intubation techniques.

Council also offered their own praise for the actions and dedication by the fire department and called the award well-deserved.
