Nick McWilliams reporting – Uhrichsville officials are attempting to address more rundown structures within the city with funds from the county.

Service Director Belle Everett discussed told council during a recent meeting that she had submitted proposals for demolition grant funding from Tuscarawas County to address blighted structures in various parts of the city.

She says that currently, four homes are under consideration for demolition if they are approved by county officials.

“Three that will be prioritized, and one that is a backup should one of the properties fail. I’ve received written consent to demolish one of the properties from the owner, and I have filed that with [Tuscarawas County Community and Economic Development Director] Scott Reynolds through the application process.”

Everett says that the city received permission to foreclose upon the property at 521 East First Street, and are working to remove structures at 417 Cross Street, 133 West Third Street, and 252 Wardell Street.

The city is foreclosing on properties with eligible properties, and submitting the demolition plans, with the intent to see future development, rather than rundown homes that have been abandoned, are in disrepair, have thousands of dollars of back taxes, or other issues.

The service director also said that she has met with County Auditor Larry Lindberg, hoping to remove some of the properties off the books that have tens of thousands of dollars owed that are unlikely to be paid in the near future.
