Wilma Jean Lawver, 95, of Newcomerstown, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on November 8, 2021, at her home. Jean was born on May 5, 1926, in New Philadelphia, OH, to the late Charles Leroy and Elsie (Rexroad) Thurman. She graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1944. Jean married John Lawver on June 3, 1944 and is now reunited with her beloved husband of 57 years. Jean was a member of the Churches of Christ in Christian Union of Newcomerstown. Jean was very active in the church; she enjoyed reading the Bible and being a greeter and prayer warrior. She also enjoyed puzzles, word searches, and spending time with family and friends. Jean felt she lived a blessed life.

Jean is survived by her children, Linda (Daniel) Stocker of New Philadelphia, Laurie (Keith) Carretta of Bolivar; grandchildren, Tiffany Stocker and Benjamin Carretta; brothers, Dean Thurman of Dover, Norman (Barbara) Thurman of New Philadelphia; a dear friend whom she loved like a daughter, Joann Hannahs; Lydia Westhafer, a great neighbor and friend.

Along with her parents and husband, Jean is preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Mary Thurman.

Jean’s family would like to extend special thanks to Joann Hannahs and Elaine Leggett for helping them care for Jean at home.

The service for Jean Lawver will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Addy Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Reed officiating. Visitation will take place the same day, from 10:30 AM-12 PM, prior to the service. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Newcomerstown. The family of Jean requests that visitors attending please wear a mask and follow COVID protocol. Memorial donations can be made in Jean’s name to Churches of Christ in Christian Union.
