Nick McWilliams reporting – Residents and groups that make major contributions to Tuscarawas County will be honored through the yearly Zeisberger-Heckwelder Awards.

Nominations are being accepted now through February 1st for the annual recognition, which was first started in 1981 by the Tuscarawas County Historical Society.

The awards will give nods to four residents and one organization who go above and beyond to have a positive impact in the county to improve life, with special focus on historical preservation.

Nominees must be residents of or be located in Tuscarawas County, with current office holders excluded.

Special emphasis is given for contributions in service and society with aspects including humanity, peace, God and love.

The official announcement for winners will be in April, with a presentation at the historical society’s Founders Day Banquet in May.

All nominations must be made in writing, containing the nominees name, address, and phone number; the nominators name, address and phone number; a written explanation of why the nominee should be considered for the award, and a list of any leadership roles the applicant has held with supporting documents.

Documents and nomination form should be sent to P.O. Box 462, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.

They can also be dropped off at the Kent State Tuscarawas Archives in Founders Hall.
