The Tuscarawas Health Department (TCHD) is expanding their Project Dawn naloxone distribution program into the Carroll County General Health District and Harrison County General Health District.

Project DAWN’s Coordinator, Lakyn Craig, says it is important to TCHD that their project expands into more local counties, giving residents an easier way to access the naloxone kits.

She says, to receive a narcan kit, an individual can go to their local health department.

“The process to receive a naloxone or a narcan kit through a local health department is pretty simple. So you can go to either The Tuscarawas Health Department, the Carroll County Health Department or the Harrison County Health Department, and you will receive a brief training, ten minutes or less, on the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, how to call emergency services and then how to administer naloxone.”

After the training session, the health department will request the person’s information and their emergency contact in an optional survey.

Project DAWN’s goal for the future is to keep expanding their distribution system and providing people with the option of a naloxone kit in case of emergencies.
