Awareness: Emoji’s Could Mean Drug Activity

The Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center (ONIC) released, on Thursday, an alert to parents that some cases of emoji usage could be drug activity. The pictures or symbols in communication could refer to drugs in a physical, psychological, or physiological characteristic; however, this is not definitive.

Ohio Department of Public Safety Communications Director Bret Crow says this bulletin is to create awareness for parents of youth. Other warning flags related to drug usage is a child being withdrawn, behavior changes, academic problems, and physical or mental changes. Additional resources can be found at www.empowertusc.com.
