Mary Alice Reporting – Election Day is tomorrow Tuesday and among the issues, some voters will see renewals.

Up for consideration in select precincts, there are three renewal options including a 0.5 mills, five-year tax for the Joint Union Cemetery for continued operation and maintenance.

Also on the primary ballot is a property tax renewal for the Tuscarawas Valley School District, which includes parts of Tuscarawas and Stark Counties, says Superintendent Mark Murphy. The issue is for another 10 years with the money used for expenses such as technology, textbooks, salaries, school buses, and maintenance costs.

“It is not a tax increase. This emergency operating levy was originally approved in 1998 and it’s what’s called a fixed sum levy, so it generates $940,000 annually. That represents about seven to eight percent of our total operating budget so it is imperative that we continue to renew that.”

Another school district, Strasburg-Franklin Local, also has a renewal that generates $600,000 annually. This issue is for 5 years at 4.7 mills.

Polls open on Tuesday at 6:30 am and close at 7:30 pm.
