A renovation is project is underway at the Tuscarawas County Health Department.

Director of Community Relations Jennifer Demuth says the building, which opened in 1977, is in need of upgrades.

“The first phase that they’re currently working on is adding a bypass drive along the side of the building and this will make it much easier when we have drive-up events at the Tuscarawas County Health Department. It will make the traffic flow much easier and safer.”

Future phases include heating and air upgrades, a new 2,295 square foot office wing, and updated wheelchair accessibility.

Demuth notes the work is estimated to cost $2.1 million.

“Is funded through a combination of different grants and sources, including federally funded through ARPA funds, through a federal award for epidemiology and laboratory for capacity for infectious diseases, through another federal award for congressional directives, and also some state local funds.”

The Health Department will remain open. Renovations could be complete by this fall.
