The state transportation department is kicking off its 2026 construction season in eastern Ohio.
ODOT District 11 Public Information officer Lauren Borell says crews will work on 87 projects totaling 216-million dollars across the district’s seven counties.
“With that investment we’re continuing to improve roads through resurfacing projects, bridge repairs and replacements, safety projects, and slide repairs just to name a few.”
Here in Tuscarawas County, Borell says six projects are planned, costing nearly 20-million dollars.
The largest is a 9.8-million-dollar project with the Tuscarawas County Engineer’s Office to replace the County Road 62 bridge just east of Tusky and realign part of the roadway.
“It’s over the river and we are aligning the road to provide better alignment on both sides of the road. Not only are they replacing the bridge but they’re improving safety and alignment of the existing roadway with the bridge.”
Other projects this season include resurfacing four miles of State Route 39 east of Sugarcreek, and ongoing work on U.S. Route 250 between the I-77 interchange and the Schoenbrunn exit.
Borell also reminds drivers to slow down and stay alert in work zones. She says ODOT equipment was struck in morning hours one day last week in Harrison County.
