The 67th winner of a local scholarship competition was named on Saturday at Claymont High School.

Miss Clayland includes an interview with judges, an onstage question, evening wear, health, and talent and for the 2024 title, nine young ladies competed.

As the winner, Britney Putman, a 21-year-old, from Grove City, was awarded a $2,100 cash scholarship and a $500 scholarship for Kent State Tuscarawas.

“I am from North Carolina and Ohio, so to come back to Ohio, to attend The Ohio State University and to compete for the chance of Miss Ohio is incredible, and to be Miss Clayland 2024 is an incredible opportunity to serve my community and I’m so excited to get started.”

For her community service initiative, You’re Important Too: Advocacy for Children of Substance Abuse, it’s something that she knows firsthand.

“Every child be given ample opportunities in mental health counseling, career goals, education goals regardless of their substance abuse households or social economic households. If focuses on the micro and macro levels of that, and being a child from a substance home myself, it’s something very important to the heart and with Ohio being second in opioid overdose, it’s really important and what we need right now is an advocate for these children.”

The first runner-up was Marina DeNunzio. All remains contestants received $100 scholarships.
