State troopers are giving credit to an onlooker for helping apprehend the suspect accused of running from authorities after leading them on a pursuit Wednesday night.

It was from New Philadelphia to Newcomerstown. Post Commander Lt Johnnie Maier says it started around 7:40pm on Commercial Avenue when the suspect allegedly had been pulled over for a vehicle defect but then drive off when the trooper discovered signs of other crimes. That’s when the suspect took off and the chase lasted for about 20 minutes along stretches of Stone Creek Road and I-77.

It ended on Harding Street. Maier says that’s when the suspect ran but was tackled by citizen.

21-year-old Connor Vance, of Newcomerstown, was jailed and charged with felonies of failure to comply for fleeing and tampering with evidence for allegedly tossing some items. Other charged include misdemeanors of operating a vehicle while impaired, reckless driving, and a window tint violation.
