Mary Alice Reporting –
The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded Tuesday morning, at 4:32, to County Road 98, just south of Township Road 1096 in Wayne Township.
New Philadelphia Post Lt. Johnnie Maier says the crash was in Dundee.
“Crash involved one-vehicle that went off the right side of the road, struck a fire hydrant, continued off the road and struck a tree before coming to rest. There was a slight curve in the road there. I’m told the curve was to the left and she went off the right side. It’s just in the center of town in Dundee, just past the stop sign.”
The single occupant, 22-year-old Kindra Owens, of Canton, was pronounced deceased.
Lt. Maier adds that alcohol or drugs are not suspected factors.
“But most definitely not wearing the seatbelt is a large factor on the extent of her injuries.”
When the vehicle left the roadway, it struck a fire hydrant and a tree.
“The fire hydrant was just lightly struck but it didn’t sustain damage that would result in having any repairs. The large extent of the crash and the damage sustained was from the tree that was stuck.”
Troopers were assisted by Wayne Township Fire Department and the Tuscarawas County Corner’s Office. The accident remains under investigation.
