Mary Alice Reporting –

A New Philadelphia man is in custody after a vehicle and foot pursuit.

Authorities received a Tuesday morning call regarding a stolen red Ford pickup out of the Port Washington area.

Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Bryan Patrick says at roughly 2:40pm, he was patrolling the area when he spotted the vehicle in the area of Gilmore Road and River Road and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver sped up.

“Chased the truck for many miles through multiple townships before the Highway Patrol was able to deploy stop sticks in front of it. I continued to follow the truck until it came to a complete stop, probably another mile down the road.”

Sgt. Patrick notes that before troopers deployed the stop sticks, at the intersection of Rush Church Road and Blizzard Ridge Road, the driver was navigating several back roads carelessly.

“All over the roadway, speeding at times. He almost wrecked numerous times. Almost hit a couple of vehicles and passed a semi completely on the left berm. The good news, with these being back roads, traffic was very minimal.”

After the truck fully stopped, the suspect tried to flee but was placed into handcuffs shortly after.

The 24-year-old is being held at the Tuscarawas County Jail pending formal charges.
