The Newcomerstown Police Department and Newcomerstown NOW invite residents to Cy Young Park for a 2nd annual event.
Saturday will be a Community Day, featuring a pool party and appearances by first responders.
Police Chief Craig Kennedy says one of his officers is behind the department being on hand as a way to connect with local residents.
“It was his idea to try and get first responders some face time with residents down here, and he plans it and puts it all together and tries to make it a good event for people in the community to come down and at least enjoy themselves and get some free food.”
Kennedy says they’ve also invited other local organizations to share information, like Noah’s Hope and Job and Family Services.
“Those places can offer resources that people in the community will kind of forget about or not realize are there. If they’re not dealing hand in hand with law enforcement and we’re not giving them the resources they’re not really aware of what’s out there.”
Saturday’s event will run from noon until 5pm.
“It’s kid friendly. They have bounce houses, dunk tanks. Everything we do there is all donated by local businesses and hospitals, so I think everyone’s on board with trying to reach out to the community. Let the community know that we’re all in everything together and there are a lot of resources.”
There will be hot dogs and drinks, face painting, kid’s activities, door prizes, and the pool party.
