A 28-year-old Newcomerstown man who led police on a high speed chase the day after Christmas has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Tuscarawas County Sheriff records indicate Keelan Harris fled from police after being clocked going 67 in a 35 on West High Avenue near Bluebell Drive in New Philadelphia on the night of December 26th. Speeds reached 110 miles per hour on Stonecreek Road before Harris crashed his vehicle. It rolled over several times, but Harris managed to run from the scene before he was caught on I-77. Harris was injured in the crash, and his initial booking photo shows his entire head covered in bandages.

Harris initially pleaded not guilty to failing to comply with a police officer, a third-degree felony. He changed his plea to guilty in April.

Judge Elizabeth Thomakos last week sentenced Harris to 24 months in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and suspended his driver’s license until 2028. Harris was already on probation for a previous conviction of theft and passing bad checks. Judge Thomakos ordered this sentence to be served consecutively to whatever other punishment Harris receives.
