Mary Alice Reporting –

Funding has started to be raised for an initiative to update and modernize a Tuscora Park playground.

A walking fundraiser was held during First Town Days and raised $600 but more donations are needed to bring the Tuscora Park Inclusive Playground initiative to reality.

Preston Cornell says the goal is to renovate an existing playground to be more accessible for all ages and abilities.

“And there’s been a lot of improvements happening, communication boards, some of the rides are being more accessible now, so there’s a lot of momentum I think, but when you look at it now there’s one handicap swing and there’s mulch to get to it, and so just seemed like this is something that a lot of people could use. It’s really going to be impactful for families in our area.”

The project has raised more than $350,000 as they go after more grant dollars and seek community donations through the Tuscora Park Foundation, says member Jan McInturf.

“It’s a big undertaking. The Park Foundation exists for such reasons as this that people can donate money through the foundation and it’s a tax write off. This playground which is needed and she’s already had a great start to it.”

The $750,000 project to replace the orange activity area includes the playground, a pavilion, and swing area.
