Gwen Rummell Reporting –
December 7th, 2023 marks the 82nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise air strike by the Japanese on the US naval base in Hawaii on December 7th, 1941, which led to US involvement in World War II.
The attack destroyed and damaged 20 ships, more than 300 planes, and killed over 2,000 Americans. Following the air strike, President Roosevelt declared war on Japan and called the attack a “date which will live in infamy.”
The theme for this year’s remembrance is “Legacy of Hope.” School children are taught lessons of the past so they can be informed and make a positive difference.
A virtual ceremony for the 82nd Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day can be found on www.pearlharborevents.com.
