Thirty-seven area students were honored with the Ray A. Kroc Youth Achievement Award last week.

The awards are named for the founder of McDonald’s and presented by local McDonald’s owners and operators Amy Ansel and Guy Cecchini.

Ansel says this is the 43rd year her family has given out these awards to eighth graders and high school seniors.

Among this year’s winners is Dover High senior Taylor Brogan. She also won the award as an 8th grader. She believes her academic success and volunteer involvement in theater made her a strong candidate both times.

“I love performing and I think it’s a great outlet for children and adults to express themselves, so I think that giving back to the community through the Little Theatre and youth camps, it’s a great way for people to express themselves and I think it’s fun to give back to that community, and lead and inspire others through it.”

This year’s breakfast was at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center where 18 eighth graders and 19 seniors from 19 area school districts were honored. Eighth graders received 100 dollars and high school seniors received 250 dollars.
