Nick McWilliams reporting – Campaigning under the promise of change for Uhrichsville, challenger Jim Zucal bested incumbent Mark Haney Tuesday night.

Receiving 67 percent of the total vote of 438 ballots cast for the Democratic nomination in November, Zucal moves on to face Republican Suzanne Bower.

In a post-results speech during an Elections Night gathering, the current Uhrichsville councilmember said that he was prepared to work towards November and beyond.

“I want to thank everyone here, because I didn’t do it. All of you did it. It wasn’t just me, and I mean that. I’m going to work hard for friend or foe in the city. It doesn’t matter who it is. I’m going to work for everyone. I’m going to bring my knowledge, my skills, and my abilities to the city.”

Zucal is currently a councilmember in his first term, and campaigned under the notion of settling a contract dispute over income tax sharing with Dennison, reduced blight, and fiscal responsibility.

In other Uhrichsville election news, in Ward 3 and 4 council races that were unopposed, Harold Shamel and Paulette Clark each received the Democrat nominations for November, respectively.
