Multiple fire departments were toned out for a structure fire at the Jaycee Village Apartment complex.

The Sunday call was at 10:37am and Uhrichsville Fire Department Chief Justin Edwards says the blaze was in the 200 apartment block and on the third floor.

He says that firefighters were able to quickly get control on the fire, which caused heavy damage on the third floor, and subsequent smoke and water damage.

“Pretty heavy fire coming out the rear and the east side of the building. It looked like it had extended to the roof a little bit. They made a very good attack on it. Very aggressive. They got the bulk of the fire knocked down, and there were several folks removed from the building by firemen.”

Edwards notes that all injuries were believed to be minor in nature. Due to the scale of damage, the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called per protocol.

A possible cause was not immediately available. Edwards says that the extensive response was due to the number of residents housed in the apartment.

Any apartment resident in need of assistance associated with the fire is asked to contact the Barcus Company at 614-451-9000. The American Red Cross is also assisting with those who have been displaced.

The three-alarm fire called in units from New Philadelphia, Dover, Arrowhead Joint Fire District, Dennison, Rush Township, Warwick Township, Port Washington, and EMS from Smith Ambulance and Tri-County.
