Mary Alice Reporting – During Monday’s Board of Education meeting, Dover gave approval of the next head wrestling coach.

High school Athletic Director Tim McCrate noted the enthusiasm and energy the new coach will bring to the program and the investment into the district.

Superintendent Kari McCrate spoke about the Board’s unanimous hiring approval of the 2017 Dover graduate.

“Gannon Petrullo as a head wrestling coach is very exciting. It’s great to see alumni come back and want to lead a program that meant a lot to them.”

Graduating from Kent State University in 2021, Petrullo is a third-grade teacher at Dover East Elementary and the Varsity Assistant Girls Soccer Coach.

As for his wrestling career, he was a coach at West Holmes High School and served two years as a MS Wrestling and MS Soccer Coach. During his high school days, he wrestled for the Tornadoes and was a two-time OHSAA State Qualifiers and three-time ECOL Champion. Petrullo remains among the top all-time wrestlers in Dover High School history with total takedowns and wins.
