Mary Alice Reporting –
~ Dover will hold a zoning variance public hearing on June 20th, at 6pm, in council chambers. This relates to a side setback on an East Ohio Avenue house that’s already been constructed. There was a failure to follow Dover City Code when the foundations were installed. The legal way would have been to ask for a variance first and then build following approval. The work was done by Lawver Built Homes LLC and it was noticed that this builder has announced a 30 home addition that would be annexed into the city but their failure to comply with city code was questioned. Action is expected on or following the hearing.
~ This coming Monday is Juneteenth, which became a state and federal holiday in 2021. It marks the notification, in 1866, to enslaved people, in Texas, of the Emancipation Proclamation. Not only will celebration events occur; some businesses may not be open in observance. This includes, locally the Tuscarawas County Courthouse and office building and the Tuscarawas Health Department will be closed, with other municipalities and banks potentially not having normal hours.
~ A partnership between the New Towne Mall, MK Events, and Newsymom LLC is bringing the zoo to the mall’s New Philadelphia location, on Mill Avenue, this Saturday. The event will be from noon until 5pm and a sensory friendly hour will occur from 5 to 6pm. The free community event will feature an exotic petting zoo, magic shows, games, vendors, and more.
