~ Sugarcreek Fire Department was called Sunday, at 9:09am, for a structure fire at Stony Point Metals. Upon arrival to Simons Drive, units discovered the blaze had already been extinguished. Officials noted that the cause was a battery connected to a solar panel. The electrical box sustained damage and the building was filled with smoke. No one was injured.

~ Coshocton native wins Miss Ohio 2023 title. The Miss Ohio Scholarship Program was recently held with a great turnout for two locals. Miss Clayland, Caitlin Seifert, represented the local area and earned her way to the top 10, which also awarded her a $1,000 scholarship. She was also named as the winner for a $500 scholarship for her continued commitment to her community service initiative of community volunteering.

The overall winner of Miss Ohio 2023 is Madison Miller, of Coshocton, whose local title was Miss North Coast hosted in Brunswick, and initiative is “The Veteran Narrative: Real Heroes. Real Stories”.

The Miss Clayland Scholarship is coming up again at the end of September and application will be available July 1st.

~ Construction continues on State Route 16, between the Muskingum County line and Spitler Drive. The project is replacing the pavement in Coshocton County with a completion by Fall 2024. New impacts begin this week, starting Monday, as the contractor moves to the next zone, between the Muskingum County line and Ross Truck Sales. Westbound traffic on SR 16 will remain open. Eastbound motorists will detour.
