Mary Alice Reporting – A Senator from Ohio has reintroduced his Working Families Tax Relief Act.

This aims to expand the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit, which would cut taxes for workers and families.

Of approved, the measure would permanently expand the American Rescue Plan’s action on the two acts and cut child poverty by 40-percent.

US Senator Sherrod Brown says the bill was first passed three years ago, at the beginning of the pandemic.

“We’re working on it again. Families work harder than ever but have less and less to show for it. We’re seeing corporate profits go up. Corporations and rich people have gotten tax breaks [and] I think Congress does way too much of that. It’s time for working families and middleclass families got these breaks and that’s what our bill does.”

According to Brown, the legislation would boost the incomes of 40 million households, including 65 million children.

He notes that they have received a lot of support in the US House of Representatives.
