Mary Alice Reporting – A closed commercial building suffered fire damage over the weekend.

The blaze was reported and New Philadelphia Fire crews received several different addresses, but they ultimately found the building at 213 8th Street.

Assistant Chief Matt Tharp explains that as they responded, haze was visible in the street.

“On their arrival, they found a medium single story commercial building with smoke showing from multiple vents on all four sides of the roof. No visible fire from the exterior.”

A further investigation found a working fire inside the building and a first alarm was called, bringing in departments from Bolivar, Dover, Uhrichsville, and York Township.

Firefighters were able to stretch a line, found the point of origin, and extinguished the blaze.

A cause and damage estimate has not been available.
