Mary Alice Reporting –

Learn more about the history of knife making, the Warther way, over four generations.

The Dale E. Warther Tribute Exhibit: Forged Through Generations, will be a new permanent exhibit at the Dover museum.

Director Kristen Harmon explains that the display will  highlight how the knife were made but also serve to honor over 40 men and women who served in World War II who carried the implements.

“We’re going to have some of Mooney’s early knives, pretty good focus on his World War II Commando knives along with the stories of the men and women who carried those knives, and then we’ll also have works created by Dave Warther, quite a few pieces done by Dale, and then Dale’s children were knife makers as well.”

Over 150 knives made by four generations of the Warther family are featured in the exhibit, spanning over 107 years.

“They all have just really unique pieces. There’s a letter opener replica that he made for Condoleezza Rice. Dale had a made a presidential knife. The presidential seal is in the form of the commando knives.”

An opening will be held Friday, September 1st at 10am.
