Nick McWilliams reporting – With some sizable paving projects completed, the city of New Philadelphia is awaiting the end of paving season with a few roads left to go.

This year, a total of $1.6 million was slated to be completed by Newton Asphalt in the city.

Service Director Ron McAbier recently told council that the remaining work would likely be completed in the coming months, with a Newton representative arriving some time in early October.

“We have Streb Drive that still needs done. We have the unnamed alley beside Bigby Coffee. And then Forbes Avenue and Sixth Street Northeast. We’re trying to stay out of there because of the gas line projects going on now.”

Some projects for 2023 included Miller Avenue, Cedar Lane, Third Street, and Commercial Avenue.

Under the Ohio Small Cities Program, the city paved Wabash, Ray, and Mill Avenues, along with 16th Street.

The service department asks all motorists in the city to be advised of ongoing work, and respect all work zones and crews.
