To stay up to date on techniques, all deputies at the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office completed emergency response training.
Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) is the national standard related to active shooter or other incidents involving active assaults.
Eight year veteran at the local office, Deputy Lincoln Troyer is an instructor, and others from the Canton FBI and other agencies were also on hand for the multiple training courses explains Sheriff Orvis Campbell.
“That covered all of our deputies here at the sheriff’s office, myself as well, so we have a hundred percent compliance here. We also were involved in instructing many other agencies and they will be able to communicate using the same terms and understand the same tactics so that they can move quickly in a situation.”
Campbell adds that dispatch protocol training is also happening and that other equipment is readily available.
“It’s something that we’re going to stay focused on. On top of that, we’ve been working with schools on things on how to get in a school quicker if there’s an emergency and things we’ve addressed with the schools and come up with some great initiatives along the way.”
In the case of a situation, law enforcements goal is early identification and school staff, parents, and students are asked that if they see or hear something, to say something.
