Facility improvements were top of mind over the summer for the Dover City School District.
Students go back Thursday and along with new hires, maintenance and safety enhancement were conducted.
Superintendent Kari McCrate says the biggest project was roofing working at the middle school building.
She adds that last year was the first time for Dover to have a School Resource Officer with Patrolman Josh Roach in that position.
“We spent a lot of time looking at facility improvements, ways we could upgrade our physical safety and security measures, so around the district, we’ve made and our continuing to make some upgrades to doors, entrance points, we’ve really focused on those areas over the summer.”
McCrate adds that the Middle School saw leadership changes with Eric Seibert now the principal. Other new hires came from community response related to student mental health.
“We do now have a school counselor in all of our schools and we’ve also added a college and career navigator. We want every Dover graduate to leave with a plan whether its university, career readiness, the military, whatever their plan is after high school.”
Crater Stadium also saw some cosmetic improvements thanks to private funds.
