Sandra Kay “Sandy” (Baab) Mellinger, age 68, of Dundee passed away on August 23, 2023, after a period of declining health.
Born to the late Roland and Marian (Stein) Baab of Stone Creek on December 12, 1954, at Union Hospital in Dover, Sandy graduated from Garaway High School in 1973 and was a standout athlete earning MVP girls’ basketball honors her freshman year. A true pioneer, Sandy played basketball, volleyball, and softball.
She married the late David L. Mellinger on June 18, 1978. Together they had three children, Beverly, Jennifer, and David.
Over the years Sandy was a hardworking farmer’s wife and compassionate mother. She was a faithful volunteer at Dundee Elementary for nearly a decade, was President of the Dundee United Methodist Church Ladies Auxiliary for many years and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Marian, and her husband David, as well as brothers-in-law Ed Freese and Mike Rininger
She is survived by her children, Bev (Mike), Jennifer (James) and David (Amber) as well as her grandchildren Jason (Megan) Keller, Rebecka, Rachael, William, Westley, Rylee Mellinger, Dawson Mellinger, and Karson Mellinger. She is also survived by her sisters Kathy Freese and Nancy Rininger.
Per Sandy’s wishes there are no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at Westlawn Cemetery in Winesburg at a later date. Memorial contributions in Sandy’s memory may be made to Community Hospice at 716 Commercial Ave. SW New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or to Dundee United Methodist Church Ladies Aid at 6764 OH-93 Dundee, OH 44624.
