Orval C. “Bunk” Dulaney Jr., 84, of Newcomerstown, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville. He was born January 3, 1939, in Parkersburg, WV to the late Orval Dulaney Sr. and Elizabeth (Baker) Dulaney.
He was a 1958 Newcomerstown High School graduate. Orval was a U.S. Army Veteran and served during the Cuban Crisis as a Specialist 4. During his time serving, he was deployed to Georgia where President John F. Kennedy came to his location to give encouragement to the troops in case of war. He was honored to see the president in person. He worked at Kurz-Kasch in Newcomerstown for over 43 years and was a member of Christ Methodist Church of Newcomerstown. He enjoyed shooting trap, loved doing genealogy and enjoyed spending time with his family. He researched his mother’s side of the family and discovered his great-grandfather served during the Civil War in WV and all of the WV servicemen received a medal. He found that his great-grandfather’s medal was one of many that were not claimed. He was awarded that medal and was very proud to receive it.
On June 16, 1961, he married Grace (Kehl) Dulaney, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Teresa (Jim) Tufford, Steve (Denise Laizure) Dulaney, and Beth (John) Scott; his grandchildren, Dirk Williams, Brock (Krystin Raach) Williams, Colt (Chelsea Watson) Tufford, Ashton Tufford, Lexie (JB) Stahl, Austin Dulaney, Amelia Scott and Leanna Scott; great-grandchildren, Chloe Tufford, Silas Smeyres, Channing Tufford, Estelle Smeyres, Elise Tufford, JB3 Stahl, Leilani Stahl, and Asher Stahl; his sister, Kathryn Trippett; and his special friend, Dwight Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Carolyn Landry, Jerry Dulaney, Charles “Trevey” Dulaney, and Marge Haught.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown with Pastor Bracken Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Wesley Community Chapel Cemetery, Newcomerstown. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard.
