As the Tuscarawas County Fair begins, the Tuscarawas County Health Department is encouraging fairgoers to be cautious of their health and hygiene.
The County Fair is full of people and animals, which makes watching hygiene habits all the more important.
TCHD Director of Health Promotion and Community Relations Jennifer Demuth says hand hygiene is a must when visiting the fair.
“Washing your hands is vitally important to do many times every day, especially during fair week when we’re in groups of people and perhaps out seeing the animals.”
Attendees should wash their hands before and after touching any object or surface.
“[It’s] so important to wash your hands, especially to during the fair before and after you’re finished eating food, before [and] after caring for a loved one who may be with you, if you are touching or petting any of the animals.”
Demuth recommends parents do not bring items such as baby bottles, pacifiers, and toys to the fair. Additionally, parents are recommended to not enter barns with a stroller, but if they do, to wash the wheels afterward.
With many hot and cold food options available, consumers are advised to wait until they are leaving to purchase food to take home to prevent possible spoilage.
