Ronald Lee Little, 70, formerly of Newcomerstown Ohio, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday September 19 in Coshocton, Ohio following a 33-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Ron was born on April 10, 1953, to the late Mable (Wilson) Little and Weldon Little of Newcomerstown. He was born with a musical soul that he shared with the world, a deep love of horses, and a steadfast love for his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen (Schaich) Little of Newcomerstown, three children, Jessica (Little) Callender (Scott Thomas) of Dover, Ohio, Jeremy Little (Lynn Little) of New Albany, Ohio, and Justin Little (Ashley Little) of Van Buren, Ohio. He is also survived by four grandchildren. Clayton Callender, Jillian Callender, and Savannah Callender of Dover, Ohio and Royce Little of Van Buren, Ohio, numerous cousins including David Little of Troy, New York, who was more of a brother than a cousin.

Ron was a devoted educator in the Sistersville West Virginia Schools, Newcomerstown Schools, River View Schools, and Dover City Schools, from where he retired in 2000. His incredible work ethic and devotion to his craft made him an inspiration to his students as he refused to give up on them no matter the struggle, and he continued those relationships beyond the school year. He believed in people, possibilities, creativity, and love. He had a quick wit and a sharp tongue, which continued even after his fight with Parkinson’s progressed.

His love of people also led him into the ministry where he served as a local pastor at Orange, Branch, and Warsaw United Methodist Churches and as Associate at Christ United Methodist in Newcomerstown. He was also a 15-year member of the Coshocton Community Choir where he also served as Director for several years.

Ron graduated from West Liberty University in 1975 with a degree in Music Education. He earned his master’s degree from West Virginia University, and he attended the Methodist Theological Seminary in Delaware, Ohio. He was also a 1971 graduate of Newcomerstown High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother John Little, who left us too early in 1972. His accomplishments include serving on the Ohio Thespians Board of Directors and as a recipient of the Manual Yingling Award from ARTSNCT for contributions to music.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 4 at Christ Methodist Church in Newcomerstown at 11, with a special choral tribute. A visitation with family will be held prior to the Celebration of Life.
