Mary Alice Reporting –
Ahead of strong winds and lower temperatures, the Tuscarawas County Emergency Management Agency is sending a few reminders.
A wind advisory was issued by the National Weather Service from 4pm Friday to 1am on Sunday. Winds are expected around 20 to 30mph and gusts up to 50.
EMA Director Noah Porter says this could blow around unsecured objects and cause branches to fall, leading to power outages. He encourages residents to have supplies on hand.
“Food and water for yourself and for any pets; as well as, having any medication that you may need on hand as well, and also things to keep warm in case the power does go out.”
Elderly relatives and neighbors should also be checked on to ensure they have supplies.
Porter adds that it’s best not to drive in windy, winter conditions, but for those that have to, be sure to use caution.
“With high winds, you want to look out for any downed power lines and if you do see anything like that, you do want to report that to your utility provider.”
Caution should also be observed as rain could turn to snow, causing slick spots. Tips include slowing down, increasing the distance between the vehilce ahead, and not be distracted.
