Gwen Rummell Reporting –

Dover Light & Power is asking electric customers to conserve power during lower temperatures.

City of Dover officials express there is nothing wrong with the electric grid and that the request can reduce costs for customers.

Customers are requested to voluntarily lower electricity usage from 6:00 am on Wednesday until 4:30 pm.

Dover Light Plant Superintendent Jason Hall says conserving during the peak hours will allow the plant to save on transmission costs, which would keep electricity rates low.

Simple conservation steps include avoiding using electric space heaters, lowering the thermostat to 68 degrees, shutting off unused lights, avoiding doing household chores requiring electricity, and turning off electronic devices when not in use.
