Robert E. Tobin, age 90, of New Philadelphia, Columbus and Freeport slipped into eternity at 12:14 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024, in Claymont Health and Rehab Center, Uhrichsville, Ohio.

He was born in Peoli, Ohio on May 28, 1933. He was a son of the late Clarence Earl Tobin and Margaret Mae Combs Tobin.

He was a truck driver for thirty-nine years hauling freight, retiring on October 30, 1995. He drove for Fred Fairall Trucking for sixteen years, Sears and Roebuck Company for twenty years, and ABF of Dayton for three years. After retiring from truck driving, he was a school bus driver for Columbus City Schools for several years.

Bob married the love of his life, Virginia Lee Stine Tobin on February 20, 1953, in the Freeport Methodist Parsonage by Pastor Tom Saltsman. Virginia died September 3, 2022.

Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grove City, Ohio and was formerly affiliated with Freeport Presbyterian Church. Beside his family, he was passionate about driving trucks over the road and motorcycles, including his Can Am Spyder.

Surviving are six children: Judith (Curt) Couts of Cadiz, Susan (Nathan) Cripe of Freeport, Michael (Joyce) Tobin of Freeport, Lori (Randy) Carpenter of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, Joy (Doug) Singer of Columbus and Brian (Alisa) Tobin of Freeport; fifteen grandchildren: Trisha, Steve (Sharon), Leslie (Steven), Lorisa (Tony), Richelle (Patrick), Alicia (Benji), Drew (Danielle), Jennifer (Robert), Haley (Brendan), Scott (Virginia), Sarah (Steven), Jared (Gentry), Jonathan, Mikaela (Dustin), and Kyler; twenty-two great-grandchildren: Jeffrey, James, Montana, Autumn, Sadie, Landan, Zakary, Danial, Carter, Xander, Anders, Emmett, Wyatt, Jase, William, Scotty, Connor, Reese, Claire, Bentley, Marlowe and Oaklynn; and a great-granddaughter on the way; a brother, Gene Westley Tobin of Port Washington; three brothers-in-law, Kendal Lewis of Vermilion,  David (Judy) Stine of Freeport; and Jack Bardall of Wooster; and two sisters-in-law, Lucille Tobin of Gnadenhutten and Yvonne Stine of Freeport.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by an infant great-grandchild, Shiloh, a sister, Joann Lewis, a brother, Floyd Tobin two sisters-in-law: Betty Brill and Della Bardall; and two brothers-in-law: Donald Stine and Ralph Brill.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S. High Street, Freeport. Services will be held in the Freeport Presbyterian Church, 106 Pine Street, Freeport, Saturday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m. with Dave Koch and Nate Cripe leading the service and Jane Hughes playing the organ.

Following Bob’s wishes, cremation will take place the following week. He will be buried at the convenience of the family at a later date in Greenmont Union Cemetery.
