Larry J. Sloan, age 76, of Dover, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, in Summerville Medical Center, Summerville, South Carolina, where he was taken after becoming ill while visiting the Charleston area.

Born July 18, 1947, in Richwood, West Virginia, he was the son of the late John and Grace (Holmes) Sloan. Larry moved to Ohio with his family at a young age and graduated from Dover High School in 1965. He met his future wife, Jane E. Fondriest, in 1973, and the couple were wed on July 20, 1974. Larry and Jane were preparing to celebrate their 50th anniversary in just a little over a week. Larry was employed by the City of Dover Electric Field Division, from which he retired in 2012 after 30 years of service.

Larry was a proud member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge. He enjoyed going bowling and playing golf, but one of his most favorite pastimes was watching his grandchildren play volleyball, basketball and baseball – he was the No. 1 fan of his grandson’s travel baseball team, the Blennerhassett Bears!

Over the years, Larry and Jane helped create many unforgettable and happy memories with their two daughters and four grandchildren. They traveled extensively, including four cruises to Alaska.

Larry will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Jane; his daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Steve Lipscomb of Vincent in Washington County; his son-in-law, Dave Hennon of Greenville, South Carolina; his four amazing grandchildren, whom he loved so much, Jaelyn, Kenlie, Aiden and Ellie; his sister, Shirley Sloan Wallick; his many nieces and nephews, including Shannon Kincaid and Brandon Wallick; his great-nieces and great-nephews; and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, who will all remember him fondly.

Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Jennifer Sloan Hennon, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Earl and Anna Mary Fondriest.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover, on Thursday, July 18, 4 – 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home; Deacon Ron Onslow will officiate. Burial will be in Dover’s St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Larry’s memory be made to his favorite baseball team, the Blennerhassett Bears, ℅ Steve Lipscomb, 3165 Veto Rd., Vincent, Ohio 45784, PayPal: @Blenbears2029.
