A 46-year-old New Philadelphia man reportedly punched two people in the stands of a freshman football game on Thursday, Oct. 12, at West Holmes High School and struck another person with his car as he attempted to flee the parking lot before police arrived.
A pair of videos circulating on social media appear to confirm the Holmes County Sheriff’s report that Raymond D. Korns II struck two men – one of them a senior citizen – in the face, causing visible injuries to both.
Sheriff Tim Zimmerly, in a press release, says Korns then fled the scene and struck an adult pedestrian who was trying to keep him from leaving.
Zimmerly says a deputy responding to the scene spotted Korns’ 2010 Honda Civic coming into the village of Millersburg. He stopped Korns and arrested him.
Korns was booked in the Holmes County Jail and released on a $50,000 bond.
He currently faces two second-degree felonious assault charges, a misdemeanor assault charge, and two misdemeanor charges of failing to stop after an accident. However, authorities say the investigation is continuing, and the case will be forwarded to the grand jury, so there could be more charges. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 26 in Holmes County Court.
One of the victims, a 72-year-old Millersburg man, was transported to Pomerene Hospital, according to the press release. The two other victims – a 52-year-old Millersburg man and a 35-year-old Glenmont man – were injured but declined treatment at the scene.
