Mary Alice Reporting –

Applications are now open through HARCATUS Tri-County Community Action Organization for the state run Summer Crisis Cooling program.

More than 44,000 households, statewide, were served in 2023 to help keep families cool over the summer months.

HARCATUS Tri-County Community Action Organization collects application for Tuscarawas, Carroll, and Harrison counties says Chief Programs Officer JoEllen Sanders.

“It really is open to all low-income households who may need assistance to stay cool. There’s a bunch of different categories we look at, you know, someone whose maybe got a discounted electric bill or is in need of new service.”

Sanders says, for those applying, documents like recent energy bills, household members and their income, and citizenship proof will be required.

We’re going to work with you. We’re going to collect the application. We’re going to look for proof of income for anybody who lives in your household over the age of 18. But ultimately I’m telling families if you are a household of one and you make anywhere around the $26,000 a year mark or lower call our office and let’s see if you qualify. For a family of four, we’re looking at $54,600 can be that threshold.”

For the local HARCATUS, they serve Tuscarawas, Carroll, and Harrison counties.

“We’re helping almost 9,000 households a year, which is amazing when you think the size of our three counties and just having people come in the door and the different resources we’re able to provide.”
