The Tuscarawas County Health Department is ramping up its mosquito control efforts following three more West Nile confirmations.

The virus-positive samples were collected July 24th and 25th in Dundee, Mineral City, and Pleasant Valley Road in Fairfield Township. The health department will respond by spraying for mosquitoes in Mineral and Fairfield Thursday and Sunday in Wayne Township.

Director of Environmental Health Mike Kopko says all three operations will take place between 8 and 11 pm, weather permitting.

The health department encourages residents with respiratory problems to keep their windows closed and remain indoors while spraying is occurring and everyone to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites.

Only about 20-percent of the people infected with West Nile experience symptoms, which are usually mild, although some experience weakness and fatigue lasting weeks or months.
