Mary Alice Reporting –
August is National Recovery Month and local organizations are working to spread the message of hope.
The ADAMH’s Board, Empower Tusc, New Philadelphia and Tuscarawas County Health Department’s, and Job and Family Services, attended a recent County Commissioner’s meeting with a request of passing a proclamation, says Empower Tusc Coordinator Jodi Salvo.
“A whole month that we can just strengthen that message that people recovery and live thriving lives and add back in the community, and it’s also an opportunity to launch Project Hope, and that is the one where we see the silhouettes around the community.”
While 20 million people in the United States suffer from addiction, 23 million American are in recovery, proving that treatment can be effective.
One hurdle, notes Salvo, is for people to connect with helpful resources and locally that can be done by calling the HOPE line at 330-663-6812.
“We still struggle to get that number out for people to understand that one number, direct, one person for people to get treatment assistance, even for family members, but it’s only as good as people know the number, so when those silhouettes are in the community it really does help people understand oh, if I need help this is where I call.”
Tuscarawas County commissioners unanimously passed a proclamation recognizing the month and efforts made locally to raise awareness and combat addiction. Resources can be found at www.empowertusc.com.
