James E. “JE” Hawk, 70, of Sherrodsville, Ohio, formerly of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024 with family by his side.
JE was born in Dover, Ohio, on November 16, 1953 to James C. and M. Phyllis (Hahn) Hawk. JE graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1972. He married the love of his life, Orlane, on May 19, 1979. Starting in 1981, he helped build Mid-Ohio Co as a welder and owner. The business grew and flourished for years. In December of 2017 the business was sold allowing JE to retire.
He was an amazing provider for his family. He wasn’t an affectionate man and was known for his fist bumps, making the hugs he gave a little extra special. For over 20 years JE and Orlane had Sunday night dinner at their house to spend time with their parents, children and grandchildren. His grandkids will always remember spending the night and the ornery shenanigans he would start. JE loved being out on the boat reeling in a walleye on Lake Erie. He was most in his element on Thirsty Thursday, drinking a Captain and water with friends and family, in his beloved garage.
Anyone that knew JE knew he enjoyed adventures. He spent many years pulling his children on inner tubes and skiing at the Ohio River. He and Orlane traveled to many locations, including Aruba, Jamaica, Punta Cana, Australia, and New Zealand. He loved playing the machines at casinos and being outdoors.
JE is preceded in death by his father, James C. Hawk; his brother, Rex Hawk; his father-in-law, Larry R. Tedrick; sister-in-law, Wendy R. Leech; and brother-in-law, Greg Erb. He will be deeply missed by his wife Orlane Hawk; his mother Phyllis Hawk; his mother-in-law Kay Tedrick; his brother Timothy (Kris) Hawk and sister Kimberly Erb; his three children Jimmy Hawk, Michelle (Paul) Zimmerman and Billy (Monica) Hawk; seven grandchildren Andrew Hawk, Ben Hawk, Samantha Hawk, Asher Zimmerman, Lily Zimmerman, Carrie Hawk, and Laura Hawk; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
As the family would like to respect JE’s final request, there will be no services at this time. There may be a celebration of life scheduled at a later date. JE’s family requests, in lieu of flowers, that a donation is made to a charity of your choice. The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville has been entrusted with his cremation arrangements.
