Mary Alice Reporting –

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District celebrated the opening of their new welcome center at Tappan Lake.

The ribbon cutting on Friday showcased the milestone that will invite visitors to enjoy the park’s atmosphere and outdoor opportunities.

Chief of Recreation Peter Novotny says it was a $3.7 million project.

“It’s really going to be the center piece so when people come down to visit, we have a camp store, we have our offices, and the ranger staff. We’re including some different things like having a business center so that people who camp with us still need to be connected just a little bit and we have the facilities to do that.”

At the opening was State Representative Brett Hillyer and Ohio Senator Don Jones.

“Congratulations and thank you to MWCD staff board on another accomplishment. MWCD has done a phenomenal job in investing back into their facilities, not only here at Tappan but all across the MWCD territory.”

The 3,900 square foot facility is part of MWCD’s vision to continue to enhance recreation and further their positive economic impact.
