The suspect accused of ramming his pickup truck into a man on a bike Friday just outside New Philadelphia has been named.
23-year-old Quintin Sarver has initially been jailed on a felonious assault charge.
Tuscarawas county sheriff Orvis Campbell says he confessed to intentionally striking the victim, 42-year-old Dustin Bowe of New Philadelphia, on his bike near the former hometown 1 mobile home sales location on East High Avenue, in Goshen Township.
“In his statements, he suggested that it was not planned. They have this ongoing problem with this individual that was on the bicycle and the suspect was leaving his home at the same time, and that was just an opportunity he took.”
Campbell says evidence Friday led investigators first to Sarver’s truck at a relative’s home in Uhrichsville, and then to Sarver himself at his own home.
Campbell says Bowe was flown to an Akron hospital in critical condition where he’s since undergone surgeries for brain trauma and bone fractures.
Sarver appeared in New Philadelphia municipal court by video where his bond was set at 50-thousand dollars.
